I started to collect CU blocks during the 1995 series and I've been hooked ever since. This 2003A series is the first where I collected notes with specific end numbers. I usually put away some district sets while I'm at it too. Of course my kids all get a district set for their little collecttions each series.

Scout
Can you get uncirculated $1s at your bank? Thats all you need to get started. Probably you should stick with making a cu district set because this series 2003A is almost over. I can help you get started if you have any interest.

I can get unc note sure, belive it or not I thought you were taking about uncut sheets,.. when you used the term blocks, I was thinking of stamp terminoligy, like plate block etc. I have been trying to put sets like you are taking about. together for the 1935 silver certificates I have the Alphabet collection of them already 1935 and 1935a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h and have been working on getting the district sets of them to gether, which will be a challenge

Bear with me here, but I have two questions:
1) What is a CU block?
2) Jim...what do you mean when you say you collect by alphabet?

CU = Crisp Uncirculated, this is the grade a note is in as it comes out of a BEP strap (distributed by the Federal Reserve Banks, basicly brand new.
Blocks are designated by the letters at the start and finish of the serial numbers. A note with a serial number like A23456789C is then from the AC block. Currently, the maximum potential numbers of notes for any given block is 96000000. Any notes with higher numbers would be from sheets and not part of general circulation production. Hope this is helpful. I'm collecting a CU block set so I'm always looking to trade CU notes with other collectors in an effort to get every block issued.

(QUOTE ChristinaM)
Jim...what do you mean when you say you collect by alphabet?
what I meant there is the fact hat the 1935 silver certificates had different variations in signatures and when that happens you get the letter below or beside the date to show that this a change. to put it simply. For example they had 1935,1935A,1935B,1935C- all the way to H
some of the signatures changed and frank answered your other question
