I wanted to buy a set of the new coins from New Zealand Post but they are sold out. Where else can you find these coins?

Downies did have them in stock in Australia a week ago. Have a look through their web site - https://www.downies.com

Wayne,Downie's was selling them at A$19.95,but they were also limiting them to 1 per customer.A few of the dealers in New Zealand do have them. You can find them being sold on either TradeMe or ebay.

Thanks guys. Is that a good price at Downies? I think NZ Post was selling them for about $10NZ. I checked ebay and there was only one person selling the three new coins for $4US plus $3 shipping. I also looked on trademe and the small coin packs were going for $100NZ! I probably ought to jump on the Downies coins before they're gone.

Actually why bother jumping on the bandwagon when these are supposely circulating coins. I actually managed to see several rolls here in a coin fair here and I have to say, the sizes are probably more situable for circulation. But for the 5 cent coin to disappear is something I would have to question.

My daughter has just returned from a Skiing holiday in New Zealand so I just got a few of the new New Zealand Coins.

The 50c coin is just slightly larger than our Australian 10c piece like the USA quarter dollar coin. The same beautiful ship design as the old NZ 50c piece but so much smaller than what it was that it is much less impressive. It really looks like a fancy ten cent piece.

The 20c coin is only slightly smaller than our Australian 10c piece and slightly larger than the USA nickel. The New Zealand coin has seven small notches around the edge of the coin, which makes this coin very distinctive.

The 10c coin is slightly larger than the Australian 5c piece and slightly smaller than the USA nickel. It looks copper in colour so is easy to tell apart from the other coins.

Overall the main impression is that they are so much smaller and lighter than the older denominations. I suppose it will only take a small time for people to get familiar with the different sizes.

Toast, a girl from work just returned from a ski holiday also and brought me back some of the new coins. I actually wanted her to get the recent dates for the older larger coins but what the heck.

The thing I noted is the copper plated 10c obverse marks really easy and there was not a coin without some tarnishing of the obverse from the air or people's fingers.

Wayne, the new New Zealand 10c. coin will eventually turn a blackish colour, just like the Canadian 1c. coin does sometimes. The 10c. coin reminds me of the old 2c. coin,as it is very similar in size. The 20c. is the only one of the new coins I like,as it reminds me of the 20 Euro-Cents coins, albeit, apart from the fact that it is a different colour & metallic composition.
