Hi, First post here.

I went to the EX today. (It's like a fair in Toronto, Canada). At a coin booth a 1967 proof goose dollar caught my eye.

I ended up paying 18 dollars CAD for it. It's in 99.99% perfect shape, No fingerprints, scratches, not even lint. The detail is amazing, and it has a really defined strike, No wear whatsoever.

Was this a good buy? Why or why not?

For sure you made a good buy. Perfect coins demand a premium. Proof strikes were not made of this coin what you have is likely Cameo! Post some pics!

Here's a picture of the coin. It's so shiny it actually messed up the shot. You can see how good of condition it's in.

Could it even be worth more than 18 bucks?

Dopey,

PL sets sell for $25, so $18 is a fair price.

Your pic is over exposed so it is hard to tell if you have HC or not. At best, certified PL-65 would fetch $40.

Compare with this 1967 HC here at $23:

Jim,

MS64 refers to the business strike and is valued higher than Dopey's coin. PL is a lot more common than higher grade MS.

MS65 would be worth close to $800.
MS66 ... $?,?

I believe there was an MS-65 for sale recently for $500, not sure if it sold or not.
These are not very good days for sellers of gem coins. DBM, the overall condition
and cameo effect of your coin (which I would guess is a specimen strike) would be
largely determined from the front, or "Queen" (a.k.a. obverse) side of the coin.

edit: as the coin looks fully brilliant, it was more likely pulled from
a PL set, not a specimen set. Sometimes I type before I think.

I agree with 1cent I believe this came from a PL set but all the same a beautiful coin and I think the price was fair...
