<sigh> ok, I'm new here and I just wanted to post a response to an already existing thread, but for the life of me can't figure it out, so guess this will be a new one...

Can anyone give me information on a particular coin? It's an 1849 Pacific Company California 5 dollar piece with a T stamped on the front (I can't imagine what minting place the T would represent.)

Also, if anyone has any information on an 1853 gold, 2 1/2 dollar piece, it'd be much appreciated. There's a liberty head on front and an eagle on the back, and the piece is about the size of a dime.

Thanks,
Mary

Mary, at the top or the bottom of the topic, there should be a link that says "Reply to topic". Click it and you should be good to go!

Does it have the word copy stamped on it anywhere? Is the T actually an R perhaps and maybe just a little hard to distinguish? These are pretty small coins. From that company they are no bigger than a nickel. Do you remember where you got the coin? Usually something of this scarcity and value has a certificate of authenticity from somewhere for insurance or resale purposes. The reason I say that is that this coin depending on condition can be a $325,000 coin and probably not too many people have them just lying around. My feeling is it is probably some type of reproduction.
