dibby33 Valued Member Australia 465 Posts	Posted 02/23/2011 6:31 pm Late last night I was opening up rolls of 20c and was thinking that there must be an easier way to view the coins. A machine! Load it up one end with the coins, the coins are shifted one at a time through the machine, stopping between two cameras (one on either side). View of the coins takes place on the screen. This will be a lot easier on the eyes and you could even record the images for future use. I think I am onto something here : Going to have to build one! Report this Post to the Staff

The choccies used to travel past an examiner on a continuous belt of some transparent material (maybe PVC or vinyl). Below that was a mirror, so both sides could be examied, almost at the same time, and with onlyone pass. Your idea uses cameras, I take it, to enlarge as well as record the image. How will they pass: in a horizontal plane; vertical; something else ? You're dealing with circulation coins, so no need to get hung up on handling issues ... Found some software that will probably do it but having problems getting to to work! Progress made though... Report this Post to the Staff

My first task is to obtain the software which will detect the date on the coin from a saved picture. Will deal with live feeds and coin movements later :-) Anybody out there worked with OpenCV?
