national dealer Pillar of the Community United States 2724 Posts	Posted 02/05/2005 11:43 am Has anyone been keeping up with the last few attempts at finding an error coin coming from the mint? 2003 Lincoln wavy steps? 2004 Lincoln wavy steps? 2004 Jefferson DDO 2004 Roosevelt DDO Are we as a community just getting nit picky here? Is the desire for a true error just too much? How hard do we have to search and make ourselves believe that something is there before we just accept that the US Mint has gotten passed the major errors? Last major error? 1972 Lincoln Cent DDO? 1955 Lincoln Cent DDO? These are the last two that can be seen with the naked eye. Now off center, capped die, brockerage, double or triple strikes. Those are real errors. Something that I have to break out my microscope to see is a bit much in my humble opinion. Other thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

collect4fun Pillar of the Community United States 1151 Posts	Posted 02/05/2005 12:05 pm I have become interested in the obvious errors, clips, multi strikes, blanks, off centers, broadstrikes, brockage and wrong planchets lately. But as with you ND, when you have to get out a microscope to see a flaw (error) that is going beyond the call of duty. Then again, everyone has their thing. Report this Post to the Staff
Metalman Pillar of the Community United States 7123 Posts	Posted 02/06/2005 1:58 pm I dont know about (reaching) as far as looking for defects goes, alot like looking at gem stones except in the reverse gem stones are graded by the absence of flaws, where as coins have the unique position of actually rewarding flaws,,errors ,varieties. I think it is the fact that mint believes themselves to be beyond the point of major errors that now keeps everyone looking, it is a more notable exception to find ine . Report this Post to the Staff
CoinNut4 New Member United States 14 Posts	Posted 02/06/2005 2:21 pm Variety collectors are a different breed to be sure.......and yes I think that for them ...the details are very important....Probably one thing that brings interst to bear upon this subject is the fact that the US mint staunchly denies any possibilities of having made any true DD's........since they adopted the single hub squeeze..... I am not sure how they happen.nor can I explain it.......but I have looked at some of coins in question and they seem to be in appearance what they claim......I am not a variety collector per say.....but if a coins value is going to be vastly increased because of some wavy lines.........Im looking!!! (Ribbon and America). It is my understanding that this is not supposed to be possible with the way the Mint produces coins these days. Report this Post to the Staff
