I was speaking to Perth Mint today and they said they are not selling any of the 1 oz Koalas, Kooks silver $1 coin cards. They said its because they sell spot bullion 1 oz at about $46AUD so they cant sell the cards below spot.
I suspect that the Perth Mint is not buying silver at present because the spot price is in a spike right now. There is a growing danger that they could be caught with bullion paid for at too higher a price. Better to sell the holdings they now have. If their reserves are low, they would not have much to sell.
In this circumstance, if they read that sales are going to be slower, it is best to spend more on presentation and market smaller amounts at a higher price.
