Could this be a missplaced mint mark between the 9 and 6?

MM were stamped into the die until 1990 by hand and show up at slightly different places and can also by rotated. So no I do not believe that mm is misplaced.

That's well-within the parameters of where they have to punch the mark. It's not 3 sq. mi., but it is a pretty big area.

I apologize but I don't under stand the responses. MM were still punched by hand this year- Eddie spin are you saying it's possible it could be a missplaced MM or that the area in question is too large to be a MM?

I see right above the D mintmark, something raised, what looks like a question mark on it's side. I think this is the area in question?

Yes Tunnioc, I think the responses were about the normal MM...there is something else, but probably just scratches or corrosion.
