Looks like someone was making a love token with the initials "F" and "C" and possibly a ring for marriage or engagement.

To answer your question, they are not uncommon. Often they are interesting, though, and I would keep it for sentimental reasons.

Also, it's engraved, or etched, and not imprinted.
