Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum. I have inherited a very nice bill collection, and I am curious to know if they hold any great value. What grading would you guys consider these to be? Any idea on worth? Thanks for helping, and I hope to post some more bills soon!

Ahh.. I love the blue color of the old 1937 $5.00 bills.

These are nice ones, consecutive serial numbers, close as I can tell they look UNC, Charlton Catalogue gives them $235.00 in unc.

Nice Notes,

I think 6996531 is Unc, Like SHAFTA9a said, and 6996532 is AU. (Looks like there is a slight fold in the top margin)

Thanks a lot guys! I can't wait to show you more! I'll probably be selling most of the collection, should I just post these on ebay as is, or graded? Can I confidently say that they Unc and AU without actually having them graded?

Yeah, Saying they are AU and Unc should be fine, the majority of notes sold are raw (ungraded). However, if you want to get your notes graded it will cost anywhere from $10-$15 (depending on how many notes you send in) and then shipping and insurance on top of that. I would also suggest using BCS (Banknote Certification Service) they are a Canadian based company that used Canadian standards to grade notes. (American and Canadian grading standards are different)

Canadian-Banknotes - When you said that you would give the one bill a grade of AU because of what looks like a slight fold, I think that it's because the bill isn't lying flat. Could that be what you are seeing? I'm just trying to see it on the actual bill, and when it's in a plastic sleeve it's totally straight.

It's the same reason I split grade on it earlier, I'd have to see it in hand but a bend usually indicates a decent presence of broken fibers, more than a counting flick.

Maybe its just the image. But when I am looking at the picture of your note it looks like a slight fold in that area. I highlighted the area in question below.

*Easier to look at your image: Not sure why this picture is so small*

I really dont see those marks on the bill, could just be the picture. I had a guy look at them, who collects coins and stamps, and he said they could definitely be considered uncirculated. He said having them graded might be a bad thing, because not everyone grades the same, and it might even bring the value down. He said they are "gorgeous bills", and should be sold as Uncirculated.
I have posted these bills on ebay here:

I don't know why that last link didn't work, I cut and pasted it from my auction. This one should work.

Think of grading them, at least you will know, and also get a benchmark of their worth. Re the grading "He said having them graded might be a bad thing, because not everyone grades the same, and it might even bring the value down." So who says you have to state the grade given by a TPG? IMO, most buyers can decide a grade for themselves within a farly close range, and it comes down to do they want it in the end.

Ok, now I look like a real newb. Sorry the last two links don't work for some reason. I hope the third time is the charm. Again, this link is to ebay where these bills are being sold, feel free to bid! Right now they're at $51.00 with 6 days left!
