REV: VESTA above, S C across field, Vesta seated left, holding patera and sceptre
Struck in Rome 37-8 AD

In this condition and a bit overcleaned. $80 - $125.

The condition is fine to very fine except the over cleaning. This is very much like the coin presented in an earlier thread that was over cleaned as well. If this coin still had the patina which I feel may have been there prior to cleaning, it certainly would command a very good price. But, as is, I think echizento is being overly generous. My estimate, for what it may be worth, is $50-$75. Good luck

P.S. Whoever is cleaning these coins needs to be more patient and let the olive oil work its magic.

Yeah, I was a little generous with the price. I think because the reverse has very nice detail. It just might fetch a little higher price.

"Thanks friends. I seem to be a collector!" Since it looks like you are on your way to becoming an Ancients collector, might I suggest a couple of things. First, as I said before, if you are the cleaner of the coins, please be patient. The patina on these coins is highly prized! Second, you need to begin gathering some reference materials. On-line is sufficient. Try https://www.wildwinds.com and https://www.dirtyoldcoins.com. Both are good starting points. If you would like more, let me know. Third, begin cataloging immediately. It has a tendency to get away from you if you put it off. And fourth, you may want to specialize a bit. In other words, as you are gathering these historical relics, you may want to focus on a particular emperor, set of emperors, denomination, reverse type, mint, etc. This makes you search a little deeper. Just my thoughts. This hobby can consume a person. Its like an addiction and I need the equivalent of a nicoderm patch for ancient coins  . Regards JW |

Nice, but yes, overcleaned. I would still buy at right price, you can never have enough vesta ae's LOL

The coin makes us face a question about what we want. This example has nice Vesta detail but what I'd call damage to the ear area on the obverse that is hard to write off as just cleaning. Would we prefer more wear, some patchy and poorly placed patina blotches or a better portrait with damage to Vesta? Coins exist to fit our every whim. Be patient and the ones that will speak to you will eventually come around. However, since the person asking this question comes from a country where it is possible to find this coin, I'll point out that I would be absolutely thrilled to find this coin myself. Faults have a way of being overlooked when the baby is our own.
