Unfortunately you need to make a private sale of such an item to reclaim anywhere near your costs.

The problem is that buy buying such a piece retail you have overpaid in the first place. A jeweller is able to get such an item for about 35% of its retail price and since the ring is now technically secondhand any jeweller would wish to pay less than that amount if you wanted to sell it in the trade.

For a fast sale you will have to be extremely lucky, generally to attain a good price a jeweller will have to sit on items like this for quite some time until a customer comes along looking for the specific item, and since you are not a jeweller the chances of someone wandering into your life and asking to buy such a thing is slim.

Its possible to sell on ebay but I just point out that everything is against you on this one and you should have low expectations on price, ultimately the item is worth only scrap (the weight of gold and diamonds) and anything more you can attain on that is a result.

If the diamonds completely encircle that band then it is not possible to size such a ring easily. For that reason you need to make clear on the listing what the ring size is.


With such a pessimistic outlook I would try and return the item to the vendor for a credit note if possible, if you spent equal money on a cartier or rolex watch its trade value would be much higher than an item of jewellery. In any case I wish you the best of luck.

If I were buying this I would skip over it the second I saw your "L@@K WOW" tag. Conduct yourself like a professional - it's not a black friday/boxing day sale (even though today is boxing day lol).

Also, a lot of serious jewellery buyers are pretty educated on terminology. Same as with coins you have to learn the language if you don't want to take a ($) hit. You might be asking too much for a ring that may go out of style or may not fit the wearer, or may not match the ladies' band. At least put the ring size on there. Hope that's a least a smidge helpful.

Silverhawk74, I have to agree with Libertad's comment about "L@@K WOW" tag. I ignore any auctions that have that in the title, and I know a lot of my friends do too.

Another way you can try to get full value for it is to get it appraised. Ask what the replacement value may be for the color and clarity and weight you have in those diamonds plus the metal. Do not include labor and that's what a jeweller might pay you half for (materials being pieced out). So work with that, although appraisals do cost money and I get that you're trying to sell it. Don't let it go too cheap, but also you're not a retailer, either. Also, the word "nice" when applied to diamonds is definitely not a technical term (it's like a calling a coin to be in "excellent shape" - it's absolutely subjective). Be upfront about it and call them for what they are, including the clarity (if it's on there?), type of cut, the color, and weight - look at the certificate again.
