Pulled this coin from a roll of 1996 bu nickels and thought this odd to be in a roll of supposedly new nickels .
Any guesses to what happened ?

This coin should not be in a roll of BU coins when all opf the others are BU. Hence your question.
This coin is a 'ring in,' probably just to make up a complete roll.
It looks like road kill.

It doesn't look like road kill to me. They usually have dents in them from stones, especially on the rim. It looks like a Dryer Coin to me.
