Is This A Genuine 1822 Crown? - Coin Community Forum

mariok New Member United Kingdom 14 Posts	Posted 09/28/2013 09:01 am Hi, This is my first post on this forum, and I hope to have enough interesting coins to be a regular. Maybe this will be the hardest one to answer. I have recently picked up a little homemade box which looks to have an 1822 Crown unevenly embedded into the lid (well and truly glued by the looks of it). It is non magnetic and the right size for a Crown, but can anyone comment on whether they think (on just the pics of the Reverse)that it is a genuine coin? If you think it is then do you think it would be worth trying to remove it by cutting out the section and soaking it in acetone? All the best Mario Report this Post to the Staff

It was only held in place with what looked like 'plaster' which just dissolved in water. I was quite pleased when I first saw the condition of the obverse .... but then weighed it 22.2 gms Ah well .... Report this Post to the Staff

mariok New Member United Kingdom 14 Posts	Posted 09/29/2013 09:41 am Hi Philadelphian, a plain edge. Unfortunately the coin wasn't set flat, so only a portion of the edge was visible. I'm presuming that it's still silver.... so the scrap value is probably still more than I paid for the box and coin ... Report this Post to the Staff
