1943 D - D Over D? - Coin Community Forum

The steel cents were incredibly hard on dies and wore quite fast. Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/23/2014 1:30 pm The coin also suffers from being reprocessed. This enhances any slight die wear and imperfections on a coin. Just die wear as mentioned. The biggest clue to me is the direction of the area in question. When it flows in the direction toward the rim, that is my best clue.
