Silver Or Not Silver ? Help Needed - Coin Community Forum

spica Valued Member France 285 Posts	Posted 09/11/2007 06:04 am I bought to american seller silver coin of Guernsey. Since I received it I have doubt. The color is more grey than silver and weight is different than certificate. Normally silver coin weights 28.28 g and real weight is 27.50 g what corresponds more for copper-nickel coins of Guernsey usually 27.71 g. This is photo reverse other photo to compare with silver coin (difficult to see difference, more easy in real) note : silver on right ! I show the coin to numismate specialist of my city but cannot say to me if it is copper-nickel or silver ! Do you know a way to recognize for sure copper-nikel ? echizento Moderator United States 23731 Posts	Posted 09/11/2007 08:31 am There are three varities of this coin, one struck in copper-nickel KM#49, another in .925 silver at 28.280 grams KM#49a, and the last in .9170 gold at 47.540 grams KM#49b. If your coin weights less than 28.28 grams than it's most likely the copper-nickle issue. Report this Post to the Staff
