This coin was lent to me from a B/M dealer. This this has a very light wipe on the reverse but is a very nice coin for it's date.

That being said....the mint mark is all messed up. this thing looks like a Denver minted coin that has been struck over an "O" mint mark.

Has anyone ever seen something like this?

Now that is odd. BUT yes it does appear to be D over O. Never heard of that before. I wonder if it really is or just a piece of metal.

It's not an unreasonable chain of events we'd have to imagine for this to be a true OMM. 1909 was the last year for New Orleans, and Denver would be the logical place to ship any still-viable dies. Seems about the right location and radius, as well, while not being a candidate for an RPM due to the shape.

I kinda like your chances here.

RPM, the 'curl' inside is the inner curve from the inside of the D punch.

Is it a D/D or a D/O? Has anyone nailed it down yet?

I think it wasn't a good punch. By that I mean it was hand punched to lightly. But I haven't seen this before. I also don't really see much proof of an O Mint Mark. Sorry twohawks I just don't think so. Louis @ Goldenisles
