Im not sure if this is a DD or MD. There is only doubling at the top of the 3 center bays, the rest of the coin is normal. Any help would be appreciated.
I believe that is a scratch on the die. The fields would be affected and the bays are the same level as the fields. So a scratch would flow across the die (Outer part being the fields) and would not affect the deeper part of the die which would be the columns/cornice areas. So it is not a doubled die or Machine Doubling. It is a die scratch. If you had several examples of this coin from the OBW roll, you would see them all exactly the same unto the scratched field would flatten, which usually takes a long time when scratches are between the devices. But that is what happened to you coin.
