I've got a Maryland State Quarter that looks like it may be on a wrong planchet. The rim is smooth, but has a copper strip. There is a lot of wear on the back of the coin, which reminds me of the way a nickel wears. It is the size of a quarter, however. Any thoughts? |

We're gonna need some pics for sure., but if it were struck on a nickel planchet, it wouldn't have a copper strip on the edge.

The reeding is part of the minting process within the collar, clad coin planchets have a quit visible cladding layer Someone has modified the coin or it is a Dryer Coin most likely by your description  |

Alright guys, I appreciate the info. I don't think that it is a Dryer Coin. It measures just slightly under the diameter of a quarter, not really small enough to be a nickel planchet. I considered an experimental planchet as well, possibly. I'll try to get some pics up. Thanks again for your input. |

Okay, the pic of the edge is pretty pitiful. Sorry about that. The reason I don't think it's wear is the weight difference. This one feels quite a bit lighter than a regular quarter.

See how the rim on coin isn't even, coin has had reeding filed off  Also tried to take some off the front an back Edited by Crazyb0

In my opinion it looks like a Slot machine quarter with the reeding completely worn away!
