The surfaces and colors would seem to suggest the coin has been polished and artificially toned, possibly using heat(?)

I agree, not original surfaces on this one, possibly burnished, then retoned. AU Details.

I'm afraid I have to agree , but why when this coin looks like it had a pretty darn good strike .

Yes, online seller. Part of my question is the insane level of detail. Seller said they left them in a wine cellar for a few decades.

Detail almost seems like it's put through a photo editor.

The wine cellar toning doctor is still at it! I located this coin on ebay by searching for "wine cellar toning". This is the same seller who has been artificially toning coins for years. I know because he bought a BU Buffalo nickel from me a couple years ago, and he relisted it on ebay a couple months later after toning it. I suspect he also juices his photos to make them pop.
