As stated the coin has multiple, visible errors. Band is off centered on both sides, with a doubled die line on the obverse. The clad looks an oreo with the nickel thick on each side and a narrow copper line. The "In" is gone but not sure if its damage, or residual from the minting. It also only weighs 5.2g. The alloy looks very different than a usual quarter. Thanks in advance for any help!

@nozz, first welcome to CCF. Second, that "Oreo" feature occurs on clad coins when they are exposed to a corrosive environment such as immersion in acid. That is not a mint error.

@Spence . Thank you. Are the other things (weight, band) attributed to that as well? And no, I promise I did not do that, lol.

Well for sure a coin that has bathed in acid will weigh less than when it was struck. As to the "band", I think you might be talking about the rim. It is a little hard to tell with these pics, but your coin might have been struck with a slightly misaligned die.

Added: acid also affects the rims, so I'm not positive about this for your coin.

Even silver can be thinned with the right acid:

Coke will actually do that if you leave it long enough.

Welcome! Ya. Acid. I learned this horrible truth when I almost fainted over a 1952 Lincoln Cent weighing 2.00g. Why people mess with us error guys I will never know.
They are probably just trying to make a counterfeit buck. Not make us mad. But it does.
