1860 UK Penny Toothed/Beaded Or Beaded/Beaded?

I think the obverse might be toothed, looking at the distance between Vicky's portrait and the rim. Here's the obverse of my 1860 beaded penny for comparison: Here's the obverse of my 1861 penny - definitely a toothed border: As for the strange depression / area to the right of the reverse, I've no idea. With a coin as worn as this it's hard to tell. It may be PMD that's been smoothed down after decades in circulation, or it could be a lamination error. I'm sure other CCF members will have their own theories! As for grading, Poor by UK standards, maybe AG in the USA. Extremely worn and a patch of corrosion to the right of Britannia. My 1860 penny is very much the common toothed version. Although its almost GOOD I know these are farthings, but they show the difference between beaded and toothed coins (left and right). Report this Post to the Staff
