Hello,
Found this nickel and it looks like there might be a die chip on the S mintmark. But zooming in it looks like it might also be doubled?

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

Definitely appears to be a 'filled in' mm or a die chip on the mm (I'm new so not exactly sure what the exact term is.) I can't help you on the doubling question but there is a 1954 S DDR you I'm looking at currently that is on variety vista you can check out.

There are a couple of die chips on the S mm filling it in but you can't have
a Doubled mm before 1989 as they were hand punched into the die.

Thank you for the responses. I learned that it isn't possible to have a doubled mint mark so thanks for the piece of info. also. I really appreciate the opportunity to learn.

Looks like a Grease Fill and on the right side of the mintmark, slight Machine Doubling. No evidence of a RPM on this one. (the mintmark would show a double punching event if it were a RPM)

Note how much larger the RPMs are enlarged on evidence of more than one mintmark punch is visible on the listing on this site?
