1991 1 Pfennig Germany Unusual Colour

I had a great holiday in SA over last Christmas and the New Year!

I don't see anything really unusual about your 1 pfennig. I worked in Germany for part of the summer of 2000, when these coins were still in circulation, and you'd find them almost any colour from golden to dark brown. It all depends how the coin was stored or what environment it spent time in.

Can you see steel on the edge? It may be either a shiny silver colour or rusty. That would show that the coin is struck on a normal planchet. If the coin is a solid golden colour around the edge, then I suppose it could be either a wrong planchet error (very unlikely) or may have been plated, perhaps by kids as a fun thing to do. These coins had such a low face value that they were often maltreated!
