I have a 2006 W PF70 Deep Cameo $50 gold eagle graded by NGC. I bought last year for about $940.

Was that a good investment, and how likely is this coin to be valuable in the future?

Yeah, it's actually worth about $1,780.00 now.

How about the same thing, but a 2007 Proof in O.G.P., but not graded and slabbed ?

It was valuable when you bought it, and it is valuable now...and I think it will be valuable in the future. Now as to whether it's value will go up more, I don't know.

Not to rain on any parade, but the Numismedia price guide doesn't mean anything. The only thing that matters is how much *you* can sell it for, not some theoretical retailer out in the blue yonder. None have sold recently on ebay, and there are a couple listed with "Buy-It-Nows" in the $1450-$1600 range. So yours is worth something less than $1450 right now.

LC- I think you got a good deal. Even in bullion value (AE carry a premium over bullion even on monex site) so it is worth atleast what you paid in just bullion value. I think it will be good to hold on to. You could get $1,100-$1,150 for it right now which would be a substantial profit over what you paid. (I would not expect to get $1,700 unless you were HSN and got a "special discount")

I would hold on to it if I were you.

That is my only gold coin, but I would rather have an old St. Gaudens.

Why are you affraid of that. if buy it nows are from 1450 -1600 and your coin would probably fetch 1400. thats 460 profit in a years time. most coins dont appreciate that much that quick

I agree. Lincolncollector, my intent was not to discourage you at all. With the run-up in gold, your coin has gone up in value, certainly way more than the average investment has over the last year.

I just didn't want you to overestimate the value based on a price guide. But again, going forward, even though some might *guess* correctly, it is impossible to *predict* where the value will go.
