Hi again
Some say I'm easily confused. That may be true. Please can anyone unwrap this one. I initially looked down the gun money route but large and late date steers me well away.
Really interested in thoughts and opinions.
Jim

Spanish, I believe, some kind of maravedi series. AFAIK the date (1655?) at the top is also a counterstamp.

I have had a few Spanish colonial coins, Mexico, Peru etc that have identification stamps but this came in and amongst a large British collection which threw my brain.
As ever, I am always appreciative of anybody that takes the time and effort to reply.

Pics are plenty clear. As noted above, Spain, revalued copper maravedis cob coinage. This is an older (likely 1500s) piece that I think has 3 separate 1600s revaluation counterstamps - should be 1636 revalued to 12 maravedis, 1641 to 8 maravedis, and 1654 again to 8 maravedis. Fairly typical example... These are rather plentiful in number and their value reflects that.

Subject to correction on the specific revaluation attributions - I don't deal with these really at all.
