I received this coin today and noticed that there were some imprints on the obverse that looked like stars. This could be a new clash for this date. I looked at the 1857 dime and the stars match up. What does the community think? The last image the best closeup I could produce with my equipment.

Interesting! Looks like there may be clashing below the eagle as well.

If these stars are incuse (and they appear that way to me), I would think that they are PMD.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Marve, the overlay is nice to show what a clash with a reverse FE would look like but keep in mind that this particular date has also been clashed with mule dies. There is a clash with a $20 gold and another clash with a seated half known for the 1857 FE.

Yes, I'm aware. Flying Eagles are my favorite series to collect. I was just trying to make it simple. Didn't want to be here all night trying to explain mule dies.

@Marve65 Let me help you with that explanation - "Something to change your mule's original color, easily purchased at any fabric store".
