What are we thinking on this one guys? I am more trying to see if my own grading eye is improving, but I will keep that to myself for now as to not influence any opinions. Appreciate it as always!

either AU details (cleaned) or UNC details (cleaned)

based on your photos, the original skin has been removed from the coin

Pushing AU58. From the photos, I'm not convinced the piece has been cleaned. Not saying it hasn't, just saying I'm unsure. "Original skink has been removed"...skink as in lizard?

AU-58 is what I was thinking. I took the pictures as you suggested - in natural light, 2-3 inches away, with a stable phone base to avoid moving while shooting. Still, it doesn't quite look like it does in hand. It looks like any other brown penny to me in hand. I cleaned some wheaties with vinegar when I first started metal detecting and it looks nothing like how that strips the surface. Let me try another pic. Then maybe you can help me see what tips you off that it was cleaned, if you still think it was cleaned. Here is a picture in my office with the ceiling light on. Maybe it is futile for me. My phone doesn't seem to take super sharp macro photos.

ok VasoB you can now see how photo accuracy is paramount when assessing a coin. this looks like a completely different coin and the obv photo is good. i'd like to see the reverse with a better photo barring that, never clean a coin with vinegar. it you have dug coins that have anything organic attached to it use 100% acetone it will not harm the surfaces and do not rub the coin as it could leave hairlines scratches.

based on the new photo and not seeing the reverse I think its an AU58 coin.

Nice AU-58 with no issues. Photos can sometimes make you think a coin is cleaned when it is not.
