I think there are around 218 different issues for Liberty Head half eagles. This scarce date gets me one step closer to that complete set! Only about 140 more to go..... Mintage for this date is 9,000 and PCGS estimates there are 85 survivors in all grades. What do you think about this one?

Looks lightly circulated. I'm at AU.

Whoa, if it's that scarce how can a novice even give a grade?

I'd say AU-53, possibly details from the reverse scratch. Nice coin!

AU50. nice addition to your collection. PCGS shows they only graded 5 at AU50 if thats where it came in at.

Looks AU-53 to me. Other than the hair wear, the rest of the coin looks 55.

I agree with most posters that the coin has near-AU detail. I think PCGS made a net-grading call due to the scratch across the shield. It's an old scratch but still noticeable. Perhaps if it were not such a scarce coin they would have detailed it. It has very attractive old-gold toning and fully original surfaces, with the scratch being the only significant defect. No regrets on this one!

Seems a bit conservative.

I'd agree that it was net graded. Congrats on the rarity.
