I'm not really totally surprised with the grade. I kept looking at the devices like the right shoe, right hand definition, the sharpness of LIBERTY and reverse lettering. I was thinking they would net grade this one due to the strike. now this throws off my entire thought process on how TPG's assess strike and lack of luster. it does have nice eye appeal

a straight graded XF40 PCGS recently sold for $2365 and a really nice one went for $3300. An XF details (cleaned) sold for $2000

most folks had the coin in the VF25 box which would be in the $900 range without the scratch. if it was raw and I was going to make an offer I would offer about $750.

A really nice XF40 with a small scratch I would say would only be discounted maybe 20% imo maybe around $1800-2000. I do like my coins in an album side by side but this is one I would leave slabbed, if not just for the difference in value.
