I bought a small part of an error collection at a flea market today, I'll post more later

*Edited to remove assumption of improper alloy, as it likely isn't. You know what they say...

Nice clip, MintedNotPrinted! But why do you think it's an "improper alloy" and not just stained?

very nice clipped planchet!

that feature going across the obverse - can you get a better image of it? Could in be a very narrow lamination?

Thank you, everyone!

Hondo, Dearborn, when I'm home later I'll get it under the scope - you may very well be correct, but it appeared to be an alloy streak to my eye.

I won't be disappointed if it's only a clip

The clip certainly looks legit. You can see where the letters near the clip are melty and incompletely formed.

I think that streak will be revealed to be the same substance that's on the steps. I bet a clean water soak and a long acetone soak might lift a lot of that crud off the reverse.
