How about a commemorative series for "Sports Heroes?" There would be a near endless supply of potential subjects! I'm thinking Ruth, Gehrig, Grange, Baugh, Chamberlain, Russell....the list goes on. They could even select 5 from an individual sport each year.
As the Olympics are coming to L.A. in 2028 they could issue coins for Olympic standouts.
Continuing the sports theme, how about coins depicting pro team logos? Seems kind of offbeat to me, but if they can put comic book heroes on a coin why not the logos of your favorite sports team? Collect them all!

I hope not!
There are multiple sports hero themed, privately-struck medal sets available. IMO, we don't need one from the US Mint (coin or medal) added to the mix.
Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. All rights reserved.

I agree with commems. Of course, we don't need another Olympics commemorative either.

I missed out on the 1996 and 2002 issues because I was not into commemorative coins during their release. I wish I was. The only Olympics commemorative coin I have is in my 1988 Prestige Proof Set and I only have that because my mother bought it for me. |

Sure private mints have issued Olympic themed medals (and a myriad of other subjects), but you can't compare a private issue to a U.S. mint release. Well, maybe if you're comparing the Comic Art coins...

I agree that the US Mint often produces top-shelf coin/medals that go beyond the quality of many private manufacturers, but it does not have a monopoly on top quality. There are several private mints out there (past and present) - Medallic Art Company, for example - that utilize top-tier artists and that have excellent coin/medal presses such that their products are a good rival to what the US Mint produces. While Commems is 100% Correct, The U S Mint's being Usually Top Tier quality along with Purity. I have collected from Many Mint's in the World, Some are Exquisite , Some are Very good designs and finish product However, Usually, Nothing like U S Mint's product, In my opinion, ....  |

The Medallic Art Company, Founded in New York, Manhattan 1903 . Outstanding Medals, Badges, Presidential Inauguration Medals too. I have long collected Firemen Badges, Local especially, All made by The Medallic Art Company, Very well done, Medals too.  |
