Picked this one up recently, 1858 Full Vine and 15 Stems, Dies OA1-RA4. A very hard-to-find coin. This one had a small touch of verdigris on the obverse, but it came off easily and I think it will straight grade. Sorry about the photo quality. I am not at home, and these were taken with my cell phone. I'll try to post better images down the road. Very nice coin. Are there stems at 4 & 7? Hard to tell from the foto.

As I said sorry about the lousy cell phone photos. Yes, there is a full vine and 15 intact stems, plus the broken one to Leaf #9.
The first three reverse dies sunk in 1858 had a full vine and 16 intact stems. This was the fourth reverse die sunk in 1858. The broken stem to Leaf #9 was an omen of things to come for Wyon's fragile reverse punch.

The verdigris was a very small superficial spot that easily came off with a thorn and a distilled water spray bottle. The metal underneath had only a tiny rough spot.
Sometimes after removal, verdigris is prone to returning. I will now just set it aside for a few months and see what happens.

Gidgit, nice example. My random sample of one hundred and fifty 1858 cents done for my 2007 book turned up exactly one example. Given what I have seen over the twenty years since, I think they are scarcer than that, perhaps 1/300 or less. That would put their estimated mintage at about 5,000 or less. Very scarce, but not rare.
I have bought every example I have seen offered for sale in the past twenty years and have the grand sum of four.

Here is my best one. It is in a PCGS AU-50 holder. It is the best example I have seen. When I bought it, it was in an old two letter ICCS holder at EF-45, before full vines were a thing. I have a PCGS XF-45 that I imaged in the first Uncommon Cents article as it was more photogenic. Beautiful coin but the stem appears shorter,
Are they known to have shorter and longer broken stems?
