Long story short my dad bought off this 500 dollar bill from a friend of his who says it used to be owned by a governor, can you give any tips to check if its real?

This is one of the large denomination banknotes ($500- $100,000)
that were made for bank use only so I doubt if there would be
any counterfeits as there would be no way of distributing them.
