Hello, I don't know too much about coins but have gained a recent interest in collecting. A vintage store near me sells foreign coins for 25 cents each, and I use an app on my phone to scan the price. My hope is that I will be able to flip them on ebay for a profit. Some of my favorite coins I have right now are the Spain 25 pesetas "Inside the Star" Proof and Brooklyn Tunnel and Transit Authority Tokens. I also own a 1976 2nd place medal from the U.S. Federation of International Moving Target Shooters and an odd 1960's advertising token for the Anaconda American Brass Co. I will likely ask more about these "coins" soon in another category with pictures. Thank you! Edited by BullTerrierChild Yesterday 12:35 pm

BullTerrierChild, welcome to the Forumn, and you never know, you may discover the fascination of coin and token collecting. As for flipping coins on ebay, as you probably already know ebay charges fees (around 13% for most sellers) and can be a tricky environment to sell (authentication issues, etc.). Also, the value of a coin or token is based on numerous factors including condition, "rarity," demand and collecting interest. I maybe stating things you already know, but thought it worth a reminder. Good luck with collecting and selling.

Good luck, everybody hopes to flip coins and make a profit - BUT they eventually find with fees and shipping costs that IF they do turn profits that they are so low that it's really not worth the trouble. It's a highly disappointing adventure.

I don't know what coin app you're using to get value; most are over-valued best to check ebay sold listings. Good Luck and to CCF.

to the CCF, BullTerrierChild. You could post pictures of your coins here on the CCF and ask for relative values just to see if you're in the ballpark.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

It's a highly disappointing adventure. I'm gonna disagree with that. The barely making any money phase is caused by two reasons. First, not knowing what the coins and tokens are actually worth. Second, running the auctions or sales badly or getting burned on the fees and shipping costs. Both experiences are a necessary step to eventually learning how to properly research coin values and how to correctly sell them at a profit. You can't skip batting practice and little league and go straight to the pros.
