This 1963 Franklin half is graded by PCGS as a PR67. Greysheet $36.00, CPG (retail) $60.00. Yet current high bid is $10,500! Currently 9 bidders and 25 bids.
Why?
A very early PCGS label (possibly the 340th coin graded by PCGS) seems to be the attraction. Still 17 days left on the auction. . .

Why? Good question. People with a desire to have the item will act on that desire. It's the marketplace--warts and all.

I think if one is to embrace this hobby and its many treasures, one must also accept that there are some real absurdities in coin collecting.

I'm not sure I would pay $10000 for a screwdriver with provenance from assembling the first airplane at Kitty Hawk. This? This is a plastic slab encasing a coin. =P

Well, if you were going to buy the holder and not the coin, this would probably be a good enough choice.

Not my thing though.
