Trying to improve my grading abilities for Morgan's. I see a low MS example disregarding the deficiency. The obverse fields look to have light somewhat directional scratches which involves perhaps polishing. The heavy cheek scratch knocks it down as well. The reverse breast feathers seem AU territory. Despite all of this the luster appears unaffected on both sides. Nice hourglass all around. I think a 55 tops. Help me out on my analysis. Thanks.

An AU coin in my opinion.

The photos do not show the rubs that knock it down to AU. Not that they are not there, I just do not see them in the images on my screen.

That being said, there are enough marks to put this at the lowest MS grade.

the coin definitely has seen circulation. I think it was wiped with something.

AU details (cleaned)

Jbuck, this coin is circulated. You can see the rub and circulation wear on the cheek, face, and nose.

Perhaps. Maybe it is the glare or maybe all the hits bother me more.

Yeah, the face looks lifeless and flat while the hair still has some luster? Very odd. I agree with panzaldi that there might have been some cleaning going on. IF straight graded, I say AU-55. Otherwise AU-Details.

Very informative feedback from all. As usual. Thanks for responding. My first dive into Morgan's. I'm sure to get there one day with your continued contributions.
