The 1971 New Penny, issued on February 15, 1971: This is the most common UK coin ever minted, with a mintage figure of 1,521,666,250. From February 1971 until the Fall of 1973 every penny in circulation in Britain was dated 1971. Even today they are still common in pocket change and I'm sure almost every dealer's junk tray around the world contains at least two or three!
