I do not really collect french coins but I have accumulated a few. This is a recent pick just so I could have a Louis XIV coin.
I also like overstruck coins. Minted in Aix-en-Provence (&) over a 4 sols aux traitants minted in Lyon (D) 176?. After 1691 Louis was busy debasing his own currency. Here he got 2 deniers (1/6 sol) from each overstruck coin of his older issue. His wars were expensive. This is contemporary of the nine years war fought to contain french expansion.
These coins had a large issue but I do not think I will find a better looking one. It looks very nice for a small coin. Too bad that the exact year of the original can not be discerned. The overstrike was too good there.
