Here's a new acquisition, a $3 note issued by W.B. Crocker & Co. and redeemable by McLaren & Jackson. Both were large general merchants in Des Arc, Arkansas. PMG and PCGS generally misspell McLaren's name as McLoren as that's how Rothert listed it in his reference, but there are advertisements from the local newspaper of the period which show the correct spelling is McLaren. While quite faded on this example, there is a vignette of a train on the left.

These notes were issued in denominations of 25 cents, 50 cents, $1, $3 and $5, and all are of the same basic design as this example. This particular note is Rothert 145-10. Rothert lists 3 varieties with different typesets, dates, and/or redemption clauses. However, as is often the case, his reference is incomplete as I own 3 other notes from this issuer which are unlisted.

That's correct, publius. Charter 13693, The Planters National Bank of Mena, issued only 1929 Type 2 notes in denominations of $5, $10 and $20. There are about 20 altogether in the NBN census, and I have one of the $5 notes in my collection. The third issuing charter in Mena, The National Bank of Mena (Ch# 7829) issued only 1902 Red Seal and 1902 Date Back notes in $5, $10, and $20 denominations, but there is only a single note from that charter in the census - a $5 1902 Red Seal.
