This is a 1973 Bank Of Canada Replacement Note
The back shows Parliament Hill as viewed from across the Ottawa River.

Those are the notes I first started collecting at the age of 13-14 while delivering newspapers. The Ottawa River scene was engraved by Charles Gordon Yorke (while working for the BABN co).

The AAX replacement was initially missed by most collectors who were accustomed to the 2 letter asterisk replacements (like your *A/A note). The notes represent the transition point from Steel-engraved backs to litho-engraved backs above 2.1 million. However, since such a large batch were issued, they ended up being pretty accessible to collectors for some time. I have both the steel & litho examples as I think they're important parts of our banknote history.
