So I have 2 1982 D pennies. They was handed down to me. They do weigh 3.11 each so they are solid bronze copper. If I remember correctly. So the 8 the top loop is smaller than the bottom loop. And the 2 curves just like a backwards s. So what do I do with them now? Auction or keep? If anyone has more information please...

Here it is it has been in my family for a long time. My birth year in fact.

They're both large dates. Please review this post for details on determining large/small date 1982 cents. https://goccf.com/t/493335

Large Date.
Do not go by the numbers, they can get damaged or distorted. Go by the
distance of the 2 from the rim. If another number will fit in the space, then
it is a Small Date. If it is close to the rim, then it is a Large Date

The 1982 small date copper is one the rarest of the 1982 series.

I agree with above. They're both only worth 1 cent each.

Here's what the small date looks like, notice how thin the devices are in the date? The large dates have "fat" dates. I found this stunning example (but zinc) searching rolls:

I have struggled determining 1982 small from large.
This is something I've never noticed before, and is now so obvious!

Thanks for that tip, JimmyD. :^)

Your welcome Vector Ze
To me it, is the quickest way and it doesn't matter if the numbers are
damaged or not, they don't change their position on the coin.
