there will be more. what's really ironic about this is the timing of it plus the cat connection. (you knew that was coming, right?) the hotel that I work for is right beside a Walgreens. there's a short zigzag sidewalk that connects the two properties. we sort of take care of that sidewalk area despite the fact that most of that sidewalk is on Walgreens' property. the assistant general (micro)manager is obsessed with little projects that are more or less irrelevant to the hotel property's overall look. the hotel property had been mismanaged for years under the prior management, so it doesn't look all that great overall, this sidewalk area being just one of many little eyesores about it. anyway, the assistant (micro)manager was in a bit of a tizzy this week due to an upcoming visit from corporate VIPs on wednesday, so on monday she texted the groundscrew (myself and another guy) telling us that we needed to tidy up that area and pressure wash that sidewalk. so right after lunch I embarked on setting up everything so that we could do that. as I was setting up, I discovered this tidy pile of coins that someone left on the curb at the sidewalk area, pictured above. fifty-eight cents. nice. pocketed. later that evening I was in the southernmost mancave talking to my neighbor. I told him about that coin find and I was carrying on about how I was likely going to be finding money at the hotel sooner or later. I explained that I had picked several single dimes, a quarter and a few zincolns the past several days and so it was just a matter of time before bigger money showed up. within the first few days of my being part of the hotel groundscrew I discovered this kitty (pictured above) hanging around the very back of the property on the porches of the hotel's waterfront units, so of course I began bringing her some food each morning when I start my shift just before 7am. I sit with her for a minute or two and talk to her as she begins devouring the eats (she gets half a can of wet food, a 2 Tbsp scoop of kibble and a pinch of catnip), and then I leave. I knew she had been living back there somewhere, but I didn't know exactly where, although I presumed she was living under the building somewhere. so yesterday afternoon while I had a bit of free time I went looking around for a potential exit/entry point for her potential hideout. that's what led me around to that side of the building where I found the twenty. isn't it funny how kitties lead me to finding lost money? as paul harvey used to say: now you know the rest of the story.

additionally, I picked a well-scattered $2.02 off the streets last night, so my total haul on tuesday was $22.60. I'm doing a really lousy job of giving up the money-finding thing, aren't i?

yes. and a greater adventure awaits. on wednesday & thursday I will be moving out of the hotbox dump I've been living in trapped in for the past nearly six years and into a condo at Seaside on the east end of the island... lap-of-luxury-time for me! I will be living rent-free for the next several months, giving me time to save my paychecks for F/L/S for my own place down the road. I will have ample time to decompress after having a downstairs narcissistic leech attached to my life since december 2020. it's quite a story how I end up with this situation. three more days and I can start my move. no more narcissist! no more hotbox! no more flakey landlords! rent-free! peace and quiet! space! clean and luxurious! a widow's walk! ocean view! gated community! security! pool on the property! and... a whole bunch of well-monied people to hand my business cards to. my kitty karma has paid off hugely. more to come.

Great news, MrPink! Hope the kitties remain lucky and that the coins and bills continue to roll in! I haven't picked up a single coin off the street for weeks now!

i picked exactly one dime last night, but I wasn't staying out to try for more. it was fantasy fest week here, ending last night, the big parade night, which also coincided with king tide, so the ocean was up in the intersections, gutters and streets. difficult getting around. I don't like pedaling through salt water & avoid it as much as possible, which lengthens my nightly ride a bit. I didn't feel like staying out too late. too much traffic, as well.
