Nice coin! Though I am no expert, there also appears to be some sort of doubling going on, on the reverse especially. Will be watching this one to see what the pros have to say.

What is the meaning of "Pincher"?
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

In the old days we referred to that as the top of the 8's.
Nice looking AU-53 coin.

Nice example of the pincer 8, or the variety O-108.

I'll say EF for the grade.
Errers and Varietys.

Thanks for your grading opinions, 40 to 53. The coin's on a local online estate auction closing in a couple hours. It's odd he only has a couple loose coins for auction. The coin is currently at $264, not a bad price if not counterfeit. Some of the fake coins for sale on Etsy can easily fool a novice without checking the coin in person. https://www.etsy.com/listing/149923...4ff97f6dd8a2

I'd say XF-40, but there are signs of cleaning in the fields, and I'm not sure it would straight grade.

Obverse appears to have near-AU detail. I'd say XF40 for the reverse, for XF-40 maybe 45 overall. Color is a little odd; maybe the coin is retoning after an old dip. Eye appeal seems OK. I see a PCGS graded VF-30 example sold for $341 recently on Heritage while a scratched XF details coin went for $159. If this coin grades problem-free and can be had for a little over current $264 bid it could be a good deal.
If you get it please report back!

very nice coin The O-108 is called the "Pincher 8" variety where the tops of the 8's in the date have open tops.
