I believe there is a collar issue but don't know which.

Or possibly a collar shimmy, although those seem to be quite rare on American coins.

Nice find! Was it found CRH? Although, I wouldn't hold it with bare fingers like that. Wear gloves. You don't want to leave fingerprints on a valuable coin like that. I'll contact Mike Diamond for this one.

looks like it was in the collar then somehow slipped out, maybe upon ejection.

(I'll have to look into that 'shimmy' Brand brought up.

Whatever happened, it doesn't look like a clean process. The railroad rims that I have seen posted here generally have a structured, struck coin profile (even though it's a striking error). Some of those areas look crushed or sheared. I would almost wonder at mechanical PMD, but the device smearing looks like it was produced during the strike.

Could it be a Stiff Collar error, along with other errors that occurred at the same time? https://www.error-ref.com/stiff-collar-strike/

As Errers and Varietys said, this is an off-center strike in combination with a stiff collar error.

E&V, I bet you're right. When I looked at the pictures, I thought each coin face had the overhang spreading in the opposite direction. But both faces are in the same direction.

Edit: Ninja'd.

So on this coin, which die was the hammer die? Or put another way, which side of a stiff collar strike gets the partial reeds, and which gets the fin—hammer or anvil?

Thank you for in input. I thought it might be a stiff collar but also thought it might be a partial tilted collar.

Congratulations on the find, Seeker! An Off Center strike and a Stiff Collar error. Pretty neat!
