I recently inherited a large silver Seleucid tetradrachm coin which, to the best of my knowledge is of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. This coin came from my grandfather who purchased it somewhere in Lebanon probably at least 50 years ago.

I know absolutely nothing about ancient coins so I have a few questions:

- How do I tell if it is genuine or not?

- The high relief appears to be shiny whereas the low relief is dark. This looks to me as though the coin were cleaned - does that hurt the value of these ancient coins?

- I cannot find this exact design anywhere. I can only find find similar ones where the figure on the back is hilting up his arm - on this coin he has his arm down on a scepter. I was looking here for reference: https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/gre..._VIII/t.html

- Where was this coin minted? Can anyone decipher the mint mark?

- If genuine, what is this coin worth?

It was cleaned. Every ancient coin has been cleaned
Some very few gold coins have been found mint perfect and carefully cleaned without leaving marks.
But every silver coin gt black oxides on the surface. If it looks shiny anywhere it has been cleaned recently. Do not worry about that.

You were not finding it because it is a coin of an usurper. Antiochos Epiphanes. 128BC. If genuine it is rare.

It does not look suspicious no me. Can be genuine. Lebanon as a place of origin causes suspicion. Great forgers of coins. Yous may be a cast copy. But they find genuine coins there.

What is the weight? Can you produce better photos outside plastic? Hos has the coin been kept for the last 50 years? Not inside plastic.
