Is My Sovereign Edward VII Gold Coin Fake?

zivi New Member Israel 6 Posts	Posted 09/26/2010 4:51 pm I have some EDWARD VII gold coins from 1905 - 1910. The official specification for that coins is: Diameter :22.05 mm thickness: 1.52 mm Weight: 7.98 gram My question is if this specification is really supposed to be accurate because some of my coins are with diameter with above 22.20 mm and the thickness is less than 1.52 (~1.45 mm). The weight is indeed 7.98 gram in all of them. Is that mean that my coins are not origins? Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

Sap Moderator Australia 16873 Posts	Posted 09/26/2010 6:57 pm Yes, it's quite possible. Even if they are imitations, you can at least be reasonably sure that they're made of gold. If the weight is correct, then it's difficult for such a small object to weigh so much unless it's actually made of gold. If the coin is slightly less thick and slightly wider than specifications, but the weight is correct, then the chances are that it's simply had the rim flattened slightly.
