Possible Clipped Planchet - Coin Community Forum

Could have been from a bench grinder. Again, Just my opinion. Don't think it's from a bench grinder since the rim appears to be intact. I'd say just a fall or thrown agains something. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 09/28/2010 04:05 am After a blank has been cut, it is subsequently formed into a planchet by having the rim formed. If the blank was cut near the end of the strip, there should be some distortion of the rim at this point. When the planchet is struck into a coin, some of the metal at the edge would move towards the collar. In this process the coin should be thinner along the edge, and with weaker legends at this point. In this case, the wheat stalk seems to be fairly well struck up. Report this Post to the Staff
