(read that in another post by someone that encases them individually). I leave my mint sets intact, just like they come from the mint. Report this Post to the Staff
biggfredd Rest in Peace United States 9104 Posts	Posted 01/05/2012 10:38 pm Some are press-fit, and you can just pry to separate the halves of the shell. Others have a seam they were joined at, and you can break it with a little pressure. Can you provide some examples? Report this Post to the Staff

I want to learn how to crack them open because I am getting a Dansco with proofs and what to put them into the album. omahaorange Valued Member United States 294 Posts	Posted 01/06/2012 05:54 am You can wedge the blade of a pocket knife into one corner, then CAREFULLY pry by twisting the handle, moving along the edge as the gap grows wider. A couple twists is all you need, then the halves will easily separate. Report this Post to the Staff

The proof sets from the past ten to fifteen years (like the one holding your Lincoln Cents) opened up with no effort, just a thumbnail alone the seem. The older cases required the use of a utility knife to weaken the bond along the seam. Set a M-80 on the ground, lay the mint case on that and light. 3. Hand to a 10 year old and say I bet you can't open this. 4. Open a wood door, place the thing in the jam, slam the door. 5.
