German Castle Token? | Souvenir Medal, Eltz

falablah New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 02/02/2012 10:56 am Having a hard time with my Google-fu on this coin. It might be a German Castle Token but it has a roman numeral date on it which I would think would be wierd for a token. Also, it has some decent thickness and weight to it (comparable to a british pound in both ways). The only thing I could find on the internets was someone asking the same question I am. What is this? Another site on it. http://www.burg-eltz.de/e_index.html Maybe contact them to see if they sell these kinds of medals/coins? MCLVII = 1157, year it was first mentioned. Pretty stunning photos of the real castle though. And this site said the tour gave out tokens. Serious construction, enough to cover half the castle. In fact, to make up for this, the tour center gave out little tokens of compensation: Cookies for the kids, souvenir coins for the adults." 1157 looks like when it was initially built.
